It is with great sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Matua Paul Tipene, who passed away today.

Matua Paul is the brother of Whaea Arona and a highly respected member of our whānau and community. He dedicated himself to serving our people and our community, and we acknowledge the contribution he made throughout his life.

As a kura, we will come together to pay our respects and support Whaea Arona and her whānau during this time of loss.

Matua Paul will be lying at Motatau Marae.

Tuesday 6 October – Haerenga ki Motatau Marae

Ngā Huiarau o Kawakawa (NHOK) will leave by bus from Waitangi Marae at 2:30pm.

Ngā Rau o Kawakawa (NROK) will leave from kura by bus and travel to Bay of Islands College, where they will meet our NHOK rōpū at 3:00pm.

For any whānau or staff who would like to join our roopū and pay their respects, please meet us at Bay of Islands College at 3:00pm. Please dress appropriately.  Females wear skirts, Males long pants.  Whānau of NHOK and NROK kaihaka, please make sure your child has what they need.  NHOK kākahu for those that have them and school uniform for those who don’t.  

We acknowledge this is a time of sadness for Whaea Arona, her whānau and our wider community. We encourage our kura community to come together with manaakitanga, aroha and respect as we support one another and pay tribute to Matua Paul.

Just a reminder about the wānanga happening during the Term 3 holidays.

NHOK will have an overnight wānanga from Monday 5 October to Thursday 8 October at Waitangi Marae.

NROK will have full-day practices from Monday 5 to Thursday 8 October, from 9:00am–6:00pm, at kura.

Please make sure students are aware of the dates and times.

If your child is away today, please call the school office or enter their absence through the Skool Loop app as soon as possible.

Kia ora e te whānau,

As our school roll and wider school community continue to grow, we are updating our process for collecting students early from school.  This change is being introduced to help ensure the safety of all tamariki and to reduce interruptions to classroom learning. We will no longer be using the intercom system to announce student pick-ups.

From now on, if you are collecting your child between 9:00am and 3:00pm, please follow this process:

Come to the school office to sign out your child/ren and collect an Early Pick-Up Card.
You must present the Early Pick-Up Card to your child’s classroom teacher so they know your child has been signed out. 
Caregivers MUST advise the school of any changes to their child's usual pick-up arrangements. Teachers will direct anyone who is unfamiliar to them to the school office. 

If your child arrives late or returns to school after 9:00am, they must sign in at the school office before going to class. 

We appreciate your support and understanding as we introduce this new process to help keep our tamariki safe and minimise disruptions during valuable learning time.
