Lock Down at the End of Lunch Today
9 Mar 2026

Today near the end of lunchtime there was an incident with a small group of  students at the adventure playground along Albert Street, and an occupant of a neighbouring property. This incident resulted in our students returning to the Johnston Road side of our kura and going into their classrooms for a short lockdown.  Police were called to investigate the incident with the person concerned and a constable came directly to our school for support and to investigate from our perspective.

We were given the all clear from the constable at 2:45pm and our tamariki were able to go home as usual.

An investigation will take place and the police will inform me of next steps for us.  Over the next few days, our tamariki will not be allowed over the road at lunchtime.  The safety of our students is our priority.

If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me: principal@kawakawa.school.nz
